The Great Briton
All grades, K through adult

Paul with his Irish harp sings “The Quiet Land of Erin.”

America is a land of immigrants. Most of us have ancestors who came from other countries. Many of our first immigrants came from Great Britain.

This program is a feast of British culture, including some of the best known songs - and some of the lesser known stories - of Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. Paul makes an impressive entrance wearing his kilt, playing the bagpipes.

We travel to “Loch Lomond” and take a look at the Loch Ness monster; he sings an hysterical Scottish patter song and we find out what the traditional Scottish ‘haggis’ is made of. (You don’t want to know!)

England is home to nursery rhymes; Wales is represented by “The Ash Grove” with flute accompaniment.

The program ends with a great story of an Irish prince who falls in love with a mermaid, the final song being sung to the beautiful strains of a Celtic harp.

“He successfully creates his cast of characters with vocal nuances and dialects. He uses the clever convention of changing hats typical of the various countrymen to signify changes in locals. Brightly colored banners are good visuals and provide an interesting backdrop for the program.” Music Center on Tour artistic director.
