Our Little Blue Planet
Grades K- 6

An eight-foot globe, painted on an inflatable balloon, dominates the stage (see photo below).

Paul's musical show encourages children to care for our planet, bringing to our attention timely subjects such as saving forests and endangered species. This is a global awareness experience, and geography and map skills come as a natural extension to Paul’s own international adventures.

As it becomes more and more evident that we must all cooperate in saving our planet, Paul calls for inter-cultural understanding with his song “People, Side by Side.”

Students always remember singing along to the chorus of "Dead as a Dodo" - a song with a serious message but set in a light hearted manner suggested by the word itself - Dodo. It's starts out this way:

"Do you--, do you--, do you know the famous bird the dodo?

It's e-- it's e--, it's extinct, the dodo is a no-show!"

Particularly appropriate around Earth Day in March or April.

Teacher materials available.

March 2007. Evaluation from Myers Elementary School, Irvine:

Pertinent, valuable, fun, educational, wonderful!

Evaluation from The Music Center, Education Division:

What a pleasure it was to watch a school performance that is working beautifully! I had not seen Paul Tracey's popular "Our Little Blue Planet" show since it first went on tour..... Since then, the performance has gotten tighter, the pace smoother, the segues seamless - even Paul's jokes seem more charming.

As part of Earth Day celebrations, this performance has great resonance. Children today are very savvy about caring for the environment and the show's songs become anthems for a cause in which they participate. The students at Brookside Elementary answered Paul's questions with ease and offered tough ones in return. Always a master at working an audience, Paul playfully fielded them all, including "How many millimeters is it around the universe?"

The marvelous globe which serves as Paul's major set piece is a wonder to behold. It has weathered many years of touring without a scratch! ....

"Our Little Blue Planet" is a model arts experience with curricular tie-ins. It's message will never become 'dated,' and I'm sure it will have a very long run.

“I love having Paul Tracey come to the school. He works well with all my staff. His programs are excellent and the children love him.” St Martin’s Episcopal School, Mary Frye, Head of School.
